Safety Education Classes

Would you know how to react in an emergency? Are you aware that you are more likely to perform life-saving first aid on a family member than a stranger? Prepare yourself for the unexpected by taking our safety classes. All classes are American Red Cross courses and are offered at various times throughout the year.

The Department of Campus Recreation is committed to providing advanced educational opportunities to the ASU community by offering professional certifications. Completion of these certifications can bring students professional opportunites and developed leadership skills while encouraging personal excellence and growth.

CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid

This Red Cross course combines discussions and video with hands-on skills training to promote effective learning and keep students motivated. The course is based on real-life rescue scenarios and lessons that reinforce decision-making skills to help first responders to be confident in responding when an emergency occurs. Course content consists of video presentations, lecture, and practice by participants. In order to receive certification, you will need to be able to perform specific skills competently and pass a written exam with a score of 80% or higher. Upon completion, participants will receive a CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer card and a Standard First Aid Card from the American Red Cross.

The course teaches how to:
* Respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants
* Use an AED on an adult or child victim of cardiac arrest

First Aid/CPR/AED Program - Bring the Class to You!!!

Train your staff, department, organization, or group to respond to emergencies. The purpose of the American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED program is to give individuals in the workplace the knowledge and skills necessary to prevent, recognize, and provide basic care for injuries and sudden illnesses until advanced medical personnel arrive and take over. Customize training topics to best suit your department's needs to include or highlight multiple levels of CPR/AED and First Aid classes.

These programs can be brought to your location or can be held at the Student Recreation Complex. All you need to provide is the room and a TV/DVD player. To schedule we will need at least two weeks notice and a class size of at least 5 participants.
