About:
Learn the skills necessary to become a certified instructor! The ASU Campus Recreation Learn to Teach Group Exercise Training Program will provide students with the information, education, and practical experience needed to become a group exercise instructor. This course does NOT certify students, but will help prepare students to take national certification exams such as ACE and AFAA.
This course specifically focuses on skills to teach step, kickboxing, and strength formats. Students will receive resources to expand their knowledge in other areas of group fitness such as Zumba, Aqua, and BOSU, but the course will not specifically focus on those formats.
The Learn to Teach program consists of extensive practical and theoretical training, including basic anatomy and kinesiology, exercise physiology, teaching techniques, class design, cueing and choreography, safety and injury prevention, and an introduction to working with special populations.
Registration: Register for this program at the Administration desk on the 1st floor of the Tempe Student Recreation Center (SRC) beginning January 19.
Pre-requisites:
Students should be regular participants of group fitness classes and have a general understanding of terminology and movements used in group fitness classes. Basic knowledge of anatomy and kinesiology principles are also beneficial.
