Learn to Teach

Group Exercise Instructor Training Program

Learn the skills necessary to become a certified instructor! The ASU Campus Recreation Learn to Teach Group Exercise Training Program will provide students with the information, education, and practical experience needed to become a group exercise instructor.

The Learn to Teach program consists of extensive practical and theoretical training, including basic anatomy and kinesiology, exercise physiology, teaching techniques, class design, cuing and choreography, safety and injury prevention, and an introduction to working with special populations.
The Learn to Teach program includes the following:

* 40hours of practical and theoretical training
-12 hours classroom training and lecture
-12 hours supervised teaching practice
-8 hours independent participation in group fitness classes
* Educational Materials
-American Council of Exercise Group Fitness Instructor Manual
(soft cover textbook, a $49.95 value)
-Lecture notes and handouts
* Sun Devil Fit group exercise pass for 8-week training period at the Tempe Campus SRC
* Certificate of Completion
* Preparation for a national certification exam
* Opportunity to audition to become a Tempe SRC Student Group Fitness Instructor
* Lead by certified fitness professionals

When

The Learn to Teach Group Exercise Instructor Training Program is held every Fall, Spring, and Summer.

The next Learn To Teach Program will be held Tuesday, June 10th to Thursday, July 31st meeting on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Registration

Register for this program at the Administration desk on the 1st floor of the Tempe Student Recreation Center (SRC).
Cost

$100 for ASU students
$150 for non-students, SRC members
$225 for non-student, non-SRC members
(ASU Students: You can charge these program registration fees to your ASU student account. Ask how at the administration desk when you register.)

Sun Devil Fit Instructors are enthusiastic, skilled leaders who provide ASU students and staff with effective, safe, and FUN exercise classes. Our instructors are passionate about physical activity and health, trained in sharing this enthusiasm with others, and dedicated to bettering the ASU community. Sun Devil Fit (in partnership with the Sun Devil Mind/Body) offers a wide variety of classes to the ASU community including cardiovascular training (step, kickbox, Hi/Lo), strength, dance, sports conditioning, aqua and much more! Sun Devil Fit is dedicated to helping its student employees become competent and motivating fitness leaders. Our program recruits experienced instructors as well as providing training for new instructors or interested individuals.

Experienced Group Exercise Instructors

Sun Devil Fitness is currently recruiting ASU students (undergrads and grads) with experience teaching group exercise classes on a rolling basis. We are looking for enthusiastic instructors who are skilled in teaching formats such as step, kickbox, muscle conditioning, dance, and others.
