Instructors

The 2008-2009 Sun Devil Fit instructors are geared up for an action packed fall schedule. Although you will recognize many of our returning instructors, some new faces will be leading classes this year! All instructors are trained to provide current fitness instruction that will contribute to your health, well-being, and fitness goals in a fun and motivational manner.

Brittany

 Position: Program Coordinator, Fitness and Wellness - completed BS in Kinesiology May 2008 - ASU alum!

I've been instructing group fitness for: 3 years

Something interesting about me: "My lifelong goal is to own and run my own no-kill non-profit animal shelter which specifically rehabilitates Pit Bulls."

What you can expect when you come to my class: My classes are fun because I push my participants to get the most out of their workouts.  I have an athletic background and bring drills and techniques into the gym from when I played Division 1 Soccer.

What classes you will find me in: Aqua Blast, Strength, Bootcamp, and Hard Core.


Danielle

Major: Special Education

I've been instructing group fitness for: 3 years

Something interesting about me: I am a teacher at a school for children with autism.  I have been a dancer for 16 years and have been instructing dance classes for 3 years.  My favorite dance style is hip-hop.

What you can expect when you come to my class: I believe in teaching in a very friendly, non-threatening environment.  I like hearing feedback from my students in regards to the styles of dance they want to learn and the songs they want to dance to.

What classes you will find me in: Dance Expressions

Doree

Major: Kinesiology - sophomore

I've been instructing group fitness for:1 year

Something interesting about me: I lifeguard, love to dance, and play tennis.  I grew up in Sioux City, Iowa, and hope to become a dentist.

What you can expect when you come to my class: I try to get to know the individuals taking my class. I like to make things fun. I have a background in dance so I lean towards choreographed routines.

What classes you will find me in: BOSU and step


Erin - coming this Fall!

Major: Sustainability - PhD student

I've been instructing group fitness for: 6 years

Something interesting about me: I am a nature lover all the way and being in great shape has allowed me to enjoy nature in a much more intimate way.  For example, this sprink I trekked through the Andes for 5 days and then climbed down, through, and back up the deepest canyon in the world (in Peru, actually, not the Grand Canyon), and paddled to remote islands!  Teaching group fitness has endless benefits, enabling unconventional travel just happens to be one of them!

What you can expect when you come to my class: I love to work hard and really build up a sweat!  In the past, my students have told me that they think it's hilarious how I smile through the entire class - even on the 90th squat or 80th crunch, I still have this big grin on my face!

What classes you will find me in: Step, Strength, Combo classes


Jessica

Major: Kinesiology - senior!

I've been instructing group fitness for: 2 years

Something interesting about me: "Any sports that include a round object known as a ball, count me in!"

What you can expect when you come to my class: I make class fun as well as informative.

What classes you will find me in: Hard Core, Strength, Aqua, Boot Camp, and Sports Conditioning.


Kerri

Major: Finance/Marketing - Junior

I've been instructing group fitness for: a few months

Something interesting about me: I enjoy hiking, working out, being outdoors, shopping, movies, keeping up with current events, and enjoying quality time with family and friends.

What you can expect when you come to my class: I enjoy leading and motivating my students to push themselves and test their physical limitations.  I hope to create a fun and enjoyable environment while simultaneously providing a great workout!

What classes you will find me in: Cardio Kickbox, Strength, Core


Liz

Major: Secondary Education - Social Studies/History - senior!

I've been instructing group fitness for: 2 years

Something interesting about me: "I love dancing and eating.  "Health" isn't about looking good, it's about feeling great physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and socially!"

What you can expect when you come to my class: Students can expect to have a FUN time moving around and being active.  People also think I am funny, but I'm not so sure!

What classes you will find me in: Dance Expressions, Core, Hip Hop, Stretch, Zumba

Michelle

Position: Assistant Director, Fitness and Wellness - MS in Kinesiology, 2004; BS in Exercise Science, 2001 - ASU alum!

I've been instructing group fitness for: 12 years (at the SRC since 1997!)

Something interesting about me: I live in a zoo - 3 dogs, 5 cats, and a baby boy (Xavier, born December 2007).  I love new experiences, good food, and traveling.  I'm doing my first triathlon at the end of July!

What you can expect when you come to my class: Teaching is my passion!!  Students can expect to get a killer workout and leave my class exhausted but energized!

What classes you will find me in: All but dance :)

Nick

Major: Geography - senior

I've been instructing group fitness for: a few months

Something interesting about me: I love ASU and I am trying to make the most out of my final year here.  I plan on traveling around the West Coast for the next few years and ending up back at home in San Francisco.

What you can expect when you come to my class: I like to keep a high intensity class with a certain security level.  Being comfortable in a class is a priority to me so laughter and fun is key in my class.  I enjoy having participants who are willing to work hard and push their bodies while enjoying themselves as much as possible.

What classes you will find me in: TKO Round One and Two, Strength, Jump and Pump

Sarah

Major: Kinesiology - senior

I've been instructing group fitness for: a few months

Something interesting about me: I love running, swimming, traveling, and the beach!

What you can expect when you come to my class: As an ACSM certified personal trainer and kinesiology major, I possess a higher understanding for how the human body works and how to design effective and challenging workouts.  I design my workouts to make you sweat, but more importantly to inspire and motivate you to make fitness a regular part of your life.

Major: Medicinal Biochemistry, Senior

I've been instructing group fitness for: 1 year

Something interesting about me: I enjoy watching ASU football games, playing intramural sports, and hanging out with friends!

What you can expect when you come to my class:  I think that exercise should be two things - motivating and fun!

What classes you will find me in: Strength, Hard Core, Step

Major: Microbiology
Hobbies: Running, Working out, and Traveling
Personal Statement: I believe that group fitness is the best way to work out. It gives you an "audience" so you really push yourself and gives you some creative ideas that you can use to exercise on your own.
